 Płynęły po morzu okręty wielkie wojenne i statek jeden mały rybacki. A był czas burzliwy jesienny; w tym czasie im okręt większy tém bespieczniejszy, a im mniejszy tém niebespieczniejszy.  Rzekli więc ludzie zbrzegu: błogosławieni żeglarze okrętów wielkich! biada żeglarzom w statku rybackim czasu jesiennego.  Ale niewidzieli ludzie z brzegu, iż na okrętach wielkich popili się majtkowie i zbuntowali się i potłukli narzędzia, przez które sternik uważa gwiazdy i skruszyli iglicę żeglarską magnesową. A wszakże okręty zdawały się napozór równie potężne jak pierwéj.  Ale niemogąc widzieć gwiazdy na niebie i niemając iglicy magnesowej zbłądziły i potonęły okręty wielkie.  A statek rybacki patrząc na niebo i na iglicę niezbłądził i doszedł brzegu a chociaż rozbił się przy brzegu, uratowali się ludzie i uratowali narzędzia swe i iglicę swą. A okręt znowu odbudują.  I pokazało się, że wielkość i moc okrętów dobre są, ale bez gwiazdy i kompasu niczém są.  A gwiazdą pielgrzymstwa jest Wiara niebieska, a iglicą magnesową, jest Miłość Ojczyzny.  Gwiazda świeci dla wszystkich a iglica kieruje zawsze na północ. A wszakże z tą iglicą, można żeglować i na wschodzie i na zachodzie, a bez niej, i na morzu północném przyjdzie błąd i rozbicie.  Więc z Wiarą i Miłością wypłynie statek pielgrzymski polski, a bez Wiary i Miłości ludy wojenne i potężne zabłądzą i rozbiją się. A kto z nich wyratuje się, nieodbuduje okrętu.

 Za dawnych czasów, byli w Anglji gospodarze, mający wielkie stada bydła i trzody owiec.  Ale wilcy wpadali często na pole ich i czynili szkodę.  Wzięli więc strzelby i psy, odpędzali i zabijali zwierza, ale zwierz odpędzony jedną stroną, powracał drugą, a na miejscu jednego zabitego rodziło się dziesięć. A gospodarze na polowaniu ustawiczném zubożeli trzymając wiele psów, i kupując broń. Stada ich i trzody ich, zniszczały.  Aż drudzy gospodarze mędrsi rzekli; pójdźmy daléj za zwierzem aż do lasu, a wytępim go w gnieździe jego. Ale wilcy przyszli znowu z drugich lasów, i owi gospodarze zubożeli, i trzody potracili.  Zubożawszy poszli do sąsiadów, i rzekli: zbierzmy cały lud; polujmy rok cały, aż wygładzim wilki na całéj wyspie; bo Anglja jest wyspą.  Poszli tedy i polowali, aż wytępili zwierza co do jednego, potém złożyli broń, rozpuścili psiarnię, a barany ich pasą się bez pastérza, od owych czasów aż do dziś dnia.

Zaś w kraju Włoskim, był powiat bardzo żyzny w oliwę i ryż, ale nie zdrowy, bo latem przychodziło nań powietrze zwane malaria, które febrę śmiertelną przynosi.  Ludzie owego powiatu, jedni kadzili w domach swych, łożąc wielkie pieniądze na kadzidło, drudzy budowali parkany od zachodu, skąd mor przychodził, inni uciekali w niezdrową porę, aż wszyscy wymarli, i stał się powiat ten pusty, a po gajach oliwnych i polach ryżowych, chodziły dzikie świnie.  I przyszła malaria do drugiego powiatu, i zaczęli znowu ludzie kadzić się i uciekać, aż znalazł się człowiek mądry, i rzekł im:  Złe powietrze rodzi się daleko od was, w bagnie o mil pięćdziesiąt stąd, pójdźcie więc, osuszcie bagno spuszczając wodę; a jeśli sami od złego powietrza pomrzecie, zostaną dzieci wasze w dziedzictwie waszém, i powiat was błogosławić będzie.  Ale owi ludzie lenili się iść daleko, i obawiali się śmierci, więc wkrótce pomarli w łożach swych. Złe powietrze idzie daléj, i zajęło już dziesięć powiatów.  Bo kto nie wyjdzie z domu aby zło znaleść, i z oblicza ziemi wygładzić, do tego zło samo przyjdzie, i stanie przed obliczem jego.
